External Hard Disk Recovery
Provide data recovery on all failed external hard disks.
After more than 7 years of recovering data on external hard disks, we have a good idea what is wrong
with your external and how best to recover it.
Types of issues that may bug down external and prevent access of data.
Disk tries to spin
Have the disk all over sudden start to spin 3 to 4 times before it dies down?
We have seen this issue, and have recovered data.
In this situation, there is nothing a client can do to recover the data themselves.
The drive will keep trying to spin over and over. More attempts made to access disk,
more damage will be made, and no one will be able to get the data.
The disk's reading heads are failing, and professional data recovery is needed at this point.
Disk is buzzing
If the external disk was dropped or knocked over while running, there is a chance that
the motor is damaged. When this happens, the drive will not spin.
Another possibility is that the reading heads are stuck in the middle of platter(s).
Again, no work for do-it-yourself. It is critical that client do not open disk for any reason.
Any disk opened by client will be more expensive to recover.
If there is valuable data on disk, it is best to leave it to the professional data recovery techs.
There are other possibilities for the buzzing sound when disk is powered.
However, it is best that a diagnostic is done by a data recovery technician, not computer repair tech.
Flashing light
When the external disk starts to flash, it may be that disk suffers some electrical issue.
In this case, disk will not spin. The board of pcb may be fried or short circuited.
Because pcb board's signals makes contact with reading heads' signals, the reading head's wires may
get shorted. In this scenario, both board and reading heads will need to be replaced.
If it is only the board that is shorted, the chance recovery is greater. It may not be possible for client to
replace board, because a lot of disk drive contains critical firmware on pcb that are almost impossible to get
from a similar drive.
DataMedia Recovery engineers know how to deal with this type of recovery.
Disk is clicking
when the external disk is clicking, 90% of the times, the reading heads failed or something related to disk firmware.
In this situation, only data recovery engineers can recover data.
It is critical, when the disk clicks, that client do not attempt data recovery themselves on disk.
More the external disk clicks, more damage it creates, and less a chance to recover data.
If a malfunction reading head is trying reading data off platters, it will eventually damage platter.
Once there is damage to platter, the data will be almost impossible to recovery.
Can see data but can't access data
Disk may be slowly failling. The chance of recovery is greater if diagnosis done on time. Sometimes, the reading
heads are getting weak. Sometimes, the drive can be seen, but data is accessible.
The drive's translation may be corrupted or deffective. In this case, only experience data recovery personals
can diagnose and retrieve data.
Whatever may be the case with the external, we have seen it, and recovered data.
We recover data on Western Digital external disk drives, Seagate external disk drives, Hitachi external disk drive.
We retrieve data off lacie mac externals, Simpletech and Simpleshare network externals.
