Potential questions that you may ask about our service or data recovery in general.
Q. Why data recovery cost so much?
A. Data recovery can be sometimes an expensive service. Depending on the situation with your hard drive, the recovery may involve buying other hard drive to recover the data. The price invloves the time it takes to recover the hard disk, the tools, computers, software, clean room, customer service reps that handle the case, and any resources that is needed to complete the job. In many ways we, in data recovery, lose money because if we put all the resources available to recover the data, and we don't recover.
Q. Is there a cost for attempting data recovery?
A. We do not, and most data recovery companies don't. We only charge you only when we recover the data that you want. Again, we incur the cost of attempting the recovery. Thus, we must be good at what we do in order to stay in the busisness, because the cost of attempting recovery on a hard disk or any other media is high. On average, a hard drive's vendor or reseller that is in business to supply data recovery companies specific disk drives will charge $150 for a drive, not counting shipping cost. We will tell you that shipping hard drive from California to the eastcoast overnight adds up to the cost of recovering the data.
Q. What is the process involve to start a case?
A. The very first thing you will need to do is to submit a case online. The submit form contain 3 sections. One that requires some personal information, such as name, email, etc. Another part is about the hard drive or media information, the make, the size, the operating system, etc. The rest of the form asks you to give us information about what happened to the drive, what have you done after the problem surfaced, and to list the most critical files you want to recover. After filling the form out, you are asked to print the form with your information, and our information as to where to ship the hard drive for a free evaluation. Once we receive the shipped hard disk or media, we assigned a customer rep and a data recovery engineer to handle the case. The customer rep is in charge of communicating to you all updates about your case. A case number is automatically issued once you filled the form, and it is with that case number you can call to get update about your case.
Q. Do you have data confidentiality agreement?
A. This is a general thing for professional data recovery companies to safeguard client's data. Once you open a case with us, unless you give authorization for somebody else to communicate with us about your case on your behalf, we will not give anyone any information about your data. We have a confidential agreement with all of our engineers and customer reps that will handle your case to keep your data private. When we do a recovery, we spot check some files to make sure they are recoverable. Unless there is some type of data corruption, we will check most of the files to make sure we don't give you bad data. In our policy, we hold client data for 90 days until client is satisfied with the recovery. After that 90 days, we purge the data from our servers and data storage.
